The Truest of Beauties

“The pursuit of beauty is much more dangerous nonsense than the pursuit of truth or goodness, because it affords a greater temptation to the ego.” (Northrop Frye, Mythical Phase: Symbol as Archetype, 1957)

I just got my face done the other day for a friend’s YouTube channel where she was experimenting on how to do make up on other people. The outcome? Well, I loved how I was looking! Thivmary had me beat! I have never sat done and had someone do my face or ever seen my face completely made up. So, for a moment there I forgot what true beauty was. I kept looking at myself saying now this is beauty.  When the truth is beauty shines from the inside out. Despite how you look, it is what is on the inside that matters.

Today we’re so bent on being perfect for the Gram, the Snap and whatever other social media platforms exist that we forget to work on our character – the truest of beauties. First impressions do matter but what people leave with is who you are and what you stand for behind the image you have created – the you at heart.  I can’t sit here and tell you how you ought to be, think and behave. However, what I can say is let positivity radiate from you wherever you step foot. You should literally aim to be dripping positive-goo! How pleasant it is to be told that because of you I want to live another day or I smiled today or even I learnt something new in life. This is the beauty we should focus on.

People go on great lengths to achieve society’s standard of beauty. When you as an individual have been created with your own unique beauty. We are all beautiful in our own incomparable ways. Your beauty is a combination of your best qualities and there is room for each person’s beauty in this world. Only you can and must define it, feel it, and then share it. Once that is done, only then are you confident in who you are, what you do and what you stand for.

Adopt society’s definition of beauty, climb the highest mountain to achieve it and yet not be beautiful on the inside will always and most surely pierce through whatever you have adopted as beauty. Beauty is within and our attitude towards life that shines out to others. Nothing dark has ever shone and nothing negative has ever been beautiful.

That little moment I had did remind me of all this indeed. Listen, every time you feel you are about to depend or adopt someone’s definition of beauty remember you are beautiful as who you are and that the truest of beauties can never be bought.
